1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
2 that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
3 For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries. For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
4 They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you. With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.
5 They will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit. For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.
8 And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
10 As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
11 If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
13 But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters. But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.
16 But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God? For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
18 “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?” And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
19 Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator. Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
