1 Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sins: Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
2 That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh , not after the desires of men, but according to the will of God. so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
3 For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols. For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
4 Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you. With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.
5 Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead. but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: that they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh; but may live according to God, in the Spirit. For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
7 But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers. The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.
8 But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
9 Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring, Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
10 As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
11 If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen. whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you; Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
13 But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
14 If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men's things. But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.
16 But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
17 For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God? For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
18 And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
19 Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator. Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
