1 Dare any one of you, having a matter against another, prosecute his suit before the unjust, and not before the saints? When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people?
2 Do ye not then know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy of [the] smallest judgments? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
3 Do ye not know that we shall judge angels? and not then matters of this life? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
4 If then ye have judgments as to things of this life, set those [to judge] who are little esteemed in the assembly. So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church?
5 I speak to you [to put you] to shame. Thus there is not a wise person among you, not even one, who shall be able to decide between his brethren! I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
6 But brother prosecutes his suit with brother, and that before unbelievers. but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!
7 Already indeed then it is altogether a fault in you that ye have suits between yourselves. Why do ye not rather suffer wrong? why are ye not rather defrauded? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
8 But ye do wrong, and defraud, and this [your] brethren. But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers! Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.
9 Do ye not know that unrighteous [persons] shall not inherit [the] kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men, Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor abusive persons, nor [the] rapacious, shall inherit [the] kingdom of God. nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
12 All things are lawful to me, but all things do not profit; all things are lawful to me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything|—but I will not be mastered by anything.
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats; but God will bring to nothing both it and them: but the body [is] not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God has both raised up the Lord, and will raise us up from among [the dead] by his power. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
15 Do ye not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then, taking the members of the Christ, make [them] members of a harlot? Far be the thought. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
16 Do ye not know that he [that is] joined to the harlot is one body? for the two, he says, shall be one flesh. Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”
17 But he that [is] joined to the Lord is one Spirit. But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin which a man may practise is without the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
19 Do ye not know that your body is [the] temple of the Holy Spirit which [is] in you, which ye have of God; and ye are not your own? Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 for ye have been bought with a price: glorify now then God in your body. for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
