1 Dare any one of you⁺, having a matter against the other, go to be judged before the unrighteous and not before the saints? When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people?
2 Or do you⁺ not know that saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you⁺, are you⁺ unworthy of the least of cases? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
3 Do you⁺ not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of life? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
4 Therefore indeed, if you⁺ have cases as to the things of life, do you⁺ seat these, the ones being despised in the church? So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church?
5 I speak to you⁺ for shame. Thus is there no one wise among you⁺ who will be able to discern in the midst of his brother? I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
6 But brother goes to be judged against brother, and this before unbelievers! but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!
7 Therefore indeed, it is already altogether a defeat for you⁺ that you⁺ have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
8 But you⁺ do wrong and defraud, and this to brothers! But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers! Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.
9 Or do you⁺ not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be led astray: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men
10 nor thieves, nor coveters, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And some of you⁺ were these. But you⁺ were washed, but you⁺ were sanctified, but you⁺ were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. And that is what some of you were. 12 “All things are lawful to me,” but not all things profit. “All things are lawful to me,” but I will not be mastered by anything. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything|—but I will not be mastered by anything.
13 “Foods for the belly and the belly for foods,” but God will nullify both this and these. Now the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God both raised the Lord, and He will raise us up, through His power. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
15 Do you⁺ not know that your⁺ bodies are members of Christ? Having taken, then, the members of the Christ, shall I make them members of a prostitute? Never may it be! Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
16 Or do you⁺ not know that the one being joined to the prostitute is one body? For it says, “The two will be into one flesh.” Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”
17 But the one being joined to the Lord is one spirit. But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
18 Flee the sexual immorality. Every sin, whatever a man might do, is outside the body, but the one committing sexual immorality sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
19 Or do you⁺ not know that your⁺ body is a temple of the Holy Spirit in you⁺, whom you⁺ have from God? And you⁺ are not your own, Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 for you⁺ were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your⁺ body. for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
