1 Paul, a called apostle of Jesus Christ, through the will of God, and Sosthenes the brother, Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and our brother Sosthenes, Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,
2 to the Assembly of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called holy ones, with all those calling on the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place—both theirs and ours: To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 I give thanks to my God always concerning you for the grace of God that was given to you in Christ Jesus, I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.
5 that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all discourse and all knowledge, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge—
6 according as the testimony of the Christ was confirmed in you, even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you.
7 so that you are not behind in any gift, waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.
8 who also will confirm you to the end—unblamable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ; who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 faithful [is] God, through whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 And I call on you, brothers, through the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that the same thing you may all say, and there may not be divisions among you, and you may be perfected in the same mind, and in the same judgment, I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
11 for it was signified to me concerning you, my brothers, by those of Chloe, that contentions are among you; For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.
12 and I say this, that each one of you says, “I, indeed, am of Paul,” and “I of Apollos,” and “I of Cephas,” and “I of Christ.” What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul|; another, “I follow Apollos|; another, “I follow Cephas|; still another, “I follow Christ.”
13 Has the Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you immersed into the name of Paul? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I give thanks to God that I immersed no one of you, except Crispus and Gaius— I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius,
15 that no one may say that to my own name I immersed; so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. so no one can say that you were baptized in my name.
16 and I also immersed Stephanas’ household—further, I have not known if I immersed any other. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.)
17 For Christ did not send me to immerse, but to proclaim good news, not in wisdom of discourse, that the Cross of the Christ may not be made of no effect; For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
18 for the word of the Cross to those indeed perishing is foolishness, and to us—those being saved—it is the power of God, For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19 for it has been written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent I will bring to nothing”; For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
20 where [is] the wise? Where the scribe? Where a disputer of this age? Did God not make foolish the wisdom of this world? Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21 For seeing in the wisdom of God the world through the wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the preaching to save those believing. For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
22 Since also Jews ask a sign, and Greeks seek wisdom, For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
23 also we preach Christ crucified, to Jews, indeed, a stumbling-block, and to Greeks foolishness, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
24 and to those called—both Jews and Greeks—Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
25 because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men; For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
26 for see your calling, brothers, that not many [are] wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
27 but God chose the foolish things of the world that He may put the wise to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world that He may put the strong to shame; But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28 and God chose the base things of the world, and the things despised, and the things that are not, that He may make useless the things that are— God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,
29 that no flesh may glory before Him; so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. so that no one may boast before him.
30 but out of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us from God wisdom, righteousness also, and sanctification, and redemption, And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
31 that, according as it has been written: “He who is glorying—let him glory in the LORD.” so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
