1 Paul, called as an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and our brother Sosthenes, Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,
2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called as saints, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours: To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.
5 that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all word and all knowledge, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge—
6 even as the witness about Christ was confirmed in you, even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you.
7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, eagerly awaiting the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.
8 who will also confirm you to the end, beyond reproach in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Now I exhort you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
11 For I have been informed concerning you, my brothers, by Chloe’s people, that there are quarrels among you. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.
12 Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, “I am of Paul,” and “I of Apollos,” and “I of Cephas,” and “I of Christ.” What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul|; another, “I follow Apollos|; another, “I follow Cephas|; still another, “I follow Christ.”
13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius,
15 so that no one would say you were baptized in my name. so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. so no one can say that you were baptized in my name.
16 Now I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.)
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to proclaim the gospel, not in wisdom of word, so that the cross of Christ will not be made empty. For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written, “I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.” For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased, through the foolishness of the message preached, to save those who believe. For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom, For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
26 For consider your calling, brothers, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble. For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28 and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may abolish the things that are, God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,
29 so that no flesh may boast before God. so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. so that no one may boast before him.
30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
31 so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.” so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
