1 From Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and from Sosthenes, our brother in the Christian faith. 2 To God's church that was made holy by Christ Jesus and called to be God's holy people in the city of Corinth and to people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
3 Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours! Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 I always thank God for you because Christ Jesus has shown you God's good will. I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.
5 Through Christ Jesus you have become rich in every way-in speech and knowledge of every kind. that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge—
6 Our message about Christ has been verified among you. even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you.
7 Therefore, you don't lack any gift as you wait eagerly for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.
8 He will continue to give you strength until the end so that no one can accuse you of anything on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 God faithfully keeps his promises. He called you to be partners with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Brothers and sisters, I encourage all of you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to agree with each other and not to split into opposing groups. I want you to be united in your understanding and opinions. I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
11 Brothers and sisters, some people from Chloe's family have made it clear to me that you are quarreling among yourselves. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.
12 This is what I mean: Each of you is saying, |I follow Paul,| or |I follow Apollos,| or |I follow Cephas,| or |I follow Christ.| What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul|; another, “I follow Apollos|; another, “I follow Cephas|; still another, “I follow Christ.”
13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in Paul's name? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I didn't baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius,
15 so that no one can say you were baptized in my name. so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. so no one can say that you were baptized in my name.
16 I also baptized Stephanas and his family. Beyond that, I'm not sure whether I baptized anyone else. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. 17 Christ didn't send me to baptize. Instead, he sent me to spread the Good News. I didn't use intellectual arguments. That would have made the cross of Christ lose its meaning. For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
18 The message about the cross is nonsense to those who are being destroyed, but it is God's power to us who are being saved. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19 Scripture says, |I will destroy the wisdom of the wise. I will reject the intelligence of intelligent people.| For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
20 Where is the wise person? Where is the scholar? Where is the persuasive speaker of our time? Hasn't God turned the wisdom of the world into nonsense? Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21 The world with its wisdom was unable to recognize God in terms of his own wisdom. So God decided to use the nonsense of the Good News we speak to save those who believe. For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
22 Jews ask for miraculous signs, and Greeks look for wisdom, For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
23 but our message is that Christ was crucified. This offends Jewish people and makes no sense to people who are not Jewish. but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
24 But to those Jews and Greeks who are called, he is Christ, God's power and God's wisdom. but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
25 God's nonsense is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
26 Brothers and sisters, consider what you were when God called you to be Christians. Not many of you were wise from a human point of view. You were not in powerful positions or in the upper social classes. For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
27 But God chose what the world considers nonsense to put wise people to shame. God chose what the world considers weak to put what is strong to shame. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28 God chose what the world considers ordinary and what it despises-what it considers to be nothing-in order to destroy what it considers to be something. God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,
29 As a result, no one can brag in God's presence. so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. so that no one may boast before him.
30 You are partners with Christ Jesus because of God. Jesus has become our wisdom sent from God, our righteousness, our holiness, and our ransom from sin. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
31 As Scripture says, |Whoever brags must brag about what the Lord has done.| so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
