1 וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל ׀ לְֽמִסְפָּרָ֡ם רָאשֵׁ֣י הָאָב֣וֹת וְשָׂרֵ֣י הָֽאֲלָפִ֣ים ׀ וְהַמֵּא֡וֹת וְשֹׁטְרֵיהֶם֩ הַמְשָׁרְתִ֨ים אֶת־ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ לְכֹ֣ל ׀ דְּבַ֣ר הַֽמַּחְלְק֗וֹת הַבָּאָ֤ה וְהַיֹּצֵאת֙ חֹ֣דֶשׁ בְּחֹ֔דֶשׁ לְכֹ֖ל חָדְשֵׁ֣י הַשָּׁנָ֑ה הַֽמַּחֲלֹ֙קֶת֙ הָֽאַחַ֔ת עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס This is the list of the Israelites— the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions on rotating military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 men in each division: Now the children of Israel after their number, [to wit], the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course [were] twenty and four thousand.
2 עַ֞ל הַמַּחֲלֹ֤קֶת הָרִֽאשׁוֹנָה֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָרִאשׁ֔וֹן יָֽשָׁבְעָ֖ם בֶּן־ זַבְדִּיאֵ֑ל וְעַל֙ מַֽחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ Jashobeam son of Zabdiel was in charge of the first division, which was assigned the first month. There were 24,000 men in his division. Over the first course for the first month [was] Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
3 מִן־ בְּנֵי־ פֶ֗רֶץ הָרֹ֛אשׁ לְכָל־ שָׂרֵ֥י הַצְּבָא֖וֹת לַחֹ֥דֶשׁ הָרִאשֽׁוֹן׃ He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army commanders for the first month. Of the children of Perez [was] the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.
4 וְעַ֞ל מַחֲלֹ֣קֶת ׀ הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֗י דּוֹדַ֤י הָאֲחוֹחִי֙ וּמַ֣חֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ וּמִקְל֖וֹת הַנָּגִ֑יד וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the division for the second month, and Mikloth was the leader. There were 24,000 men in his division. And over the course of the second month [was] Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course [was] Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise [were] twenty and four thousand.
5 שַׂ֣ר הַצָּבָ֤א הַשְּׁלִישִׁי֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י בְּנָיָ֧הוּ בֶן־ יְהוֹיָדָ֛ע הַכֹּהֵ֖ן רֹ֑אשׁ וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ The third army commander, as chief for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. There were 24,000 men in his division. The third captain of the host for the third month [was] Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
6 ה֧וּא בְנָיָ֛הוּ גִּבּ֥וֹר הַשְּׁלֹשִׁ֖ים וְעַל־ הַשְּׁלֹשִׁ֑ים וּמַ֣חֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עַמִּיזָבָ֖ד בְּנֽוֹ׃ ס This Benaiah was mighty among the Thirty and was over the Thirty, and his son Ammizabad was in charge of his division. This [is that] Benaiah, [who was] mighty [among] the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course [was] Ammizabad his son.
7 הָֽרְבִיעִ֞י לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָרְבִיעִ֗י עֲשָׂה־ אֵל֙ אֲחִ֣י יוֹאָ֔ב וּזְבַדְיָ֥ה בְנ֖וֹ אַחֲרָ֑יו וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The fourth, for the fourth month, was Joab’s brother Asahel, and his son Zebadiah was commander after him. There were 24,000 men in his division. The fourth [captain] for the fourth month [was] Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
8 הַחַמִישִׁי֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַחֲמִישִׁ֔י הַשַּׂ֖ר שַׁמְה֣וּת הַיִּזְרָ֑ח וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division. The fifth captain for the fifth month [was] Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
9 הַשִּׁשִּׁי֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י עִירָ֥א בֶן־ עִקֵּ֖שׁ הַתְּקוֹעִ֑י וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. There were 24,000 men in his division. The sixth [captain] for the sixth month [was] Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
10 הַשְּׁבִיעִי֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י חֶ֥לֶץ הַפְּלוֹנִ֖י מִן־ בְּנֵ֣י אֶפְרָ֑יִם וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division. The seventh [captain] for the seventh month [was] Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
11 הַשְּׁמִינִי֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י סִבְּכַ֥י הַחֻשָׁתִ֖י לַזַּרְחִ֑י וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division. The eighth [captain] for the eighth month [was] Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
12 הַתְּשִׁיעִי֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַתְּשִׁיעִ֔י אֲבִיעֶ֥זֶר הָעַנְּתֹתִ֖י [לבנימיני] (לַבֵּ֣ן ׀) (יְמִינִ֑י) וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjamite. There were 24,000 men in his division. The ninth [captain] for the ninth month [was] Abiezer the Anetothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
13 הָעֲשִׂירִי֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָעֲשִׂירִ֔י מַהְרַ֥י הַנְּטֽוֹפָתִ֖י לַזַּרְחִ֑י וְעַל֙ מַֽחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division. The tenth [captain] for the tenth month [was] Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
14 עַשְׁתֵּֽי־ עָשָׂר֙ לְעַשְׁתֵּ֣י־ עָשָׂ֣ר הַחֹ֔דֶשׁ בְּנָיָ֥ה הַפִּרְעָתוֹנִ֖י מִן־ בְּנֵ֣י אֶפְרָ֑יִם וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ ס The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division. The eleventh [captain] for the eleventh month [was] Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
15 הַשְּׁנֵ֤ים עָשָׂר֙ לִשְׁנֵ֣ים עָשָׂ֣ר הַחֹ֔דֶשׁ חֶלְדַּ֥י הַנְּטוֹפָתִ֖י לְעָתְנִיאֵ֑ל וְעַל֙ מַחֲלֻקְתּ֔וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ פ The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, from the family of Othniel. There were 24,000 men in his division. The twelfth [captain] for the twelfth month [was] Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course [were] twenty and four thousand.
16 וְעַל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לָרֽאוּבֵנִ֣י נָגִ֔יד אֱלִיעֶ֖זֶר בֶּן־ זִכְרִ֑י ס לַשִּׁ֨מְעוֹנִ֔י שְׁפַטְיָ֖הוּ בֶּֽן־ מַעֲכָֽה׃ ס These officers were in charge of the tribes of Israel: Over the Reubenites was Eliezer son of Zichri; over the Simeonites was Shephatiah son of Maacah; Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites [was] Eliezer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah:
17 לְלֵוִ֛י חֲשַׁבְיָ֥ה בֶן־ קְמוּאֵ֖ל לְאַהֲרֹ֥ן צָדֽוֹק׃ ס over Levi was Hashabiah son of Kemuel; over Aaron was Zadok; Of the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of the Aaronites, Zadok:
18 לִֽיהוּדָ֕ה אֱלִיה֖וּ מֵאֲחֵ֣י דָוִ֑יד לְיִ֨שָׂשכָ֔ר עָמְרִ֖י בֶּן־ מִיכָאֵֽל׃ ס over Judah was Elihu, one of David’s brothers; over Issachar was Omri son of Michael; Of Judah, Elihu, [one] of the brethren of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:
19 לִזְבוּלֻ֕ן יִֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־ עֹבַדְיָ֑הוּ לְנַ֨פְתָּלִ֔י יְרִימ֖וֹת בֶּן־ עַזְרִיאֵֽל׃ ס over Zebulun was Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; over Naphtali was Jerimoth son of Azriel; Of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel:
20 לִבְנֵ֣י אֶפְרַ֔יִם הוֹשֵׁ֖עַ בֶּן־ עֲזַזְיָ֑הוּ לַחֲצִי֙ שֵׁ֣בֶט מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה יוֹאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ פְּדָיָֽהוּ׃ ס over the Ephraimites was Hoshea son of Azaziah; over one of the half-tribes of Manasseh was Joel son of Pedaiah; Of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah:
21 לַחֲצִ֤י הַֽמְנַשֶּׁה֙ גִּלְעָ֔דָה יִדּ֖וֹ בֶּן־ זְכַרְיָ֑הוּ ס לְבִנְיָמִ֔ן יַעֲשִׂיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ אַבְנֵֽר׃ ס over the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead was Iddo son of Zechariah; over Benjamin was Jaasiel son of Abner; Of the half [tribe] of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah: of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner:
22 לְדָ֕ן עֲזַרְאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ יְרֹחָ֑ם אֵ֕לֶּה שָׂרֵ֖י שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ and over Dan was Azarel son of Jeroham. These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel. Of Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These [were] the princes of the tribes of Israel.
23 וְלֹא־ נָשָׂ֤א דָוִיד֙ מִסְפָּרָ֔ם לְמִבֶּ֛ן עֶשְׂרִ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּלְמָ֑טָּה כִּ֚י אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה לְהַרְבּ֥וֹת אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כְּכוֹכְבֵ֥י הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky. But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.
24 יוֹאָ֨ב בֶּן־ צְרוּיָ֜ה הֵחֵ֤ל לִמְנוֹת֙ וְלֹ֣א כִלָּ֔ה וַיְהִ֥י בָזֹ֛את קֶ֖צֶף עַל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֤א עָלָה֙ הַמִּסְפָּ֔ר בְּמִסְפַּ֥ר דִּבְרֵֽי־ הַיָּמִ֖ים לַמֶּ֥לֶךְ דָּוִֽיד׃ ס Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David. Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.
25 וְעַל֙ אֹצְר֣וֹת הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ עַזְמָ֖וֶת בֶּן־ עֲדִיאֵ֑ל ס וְעַ֣ל הָֽאֹצָר֡וֹת בַּשָּׂדֶ֞ה בֶּעָרִ֤ים וּבַכְּפָרִים֙ וּבַמִּגְדָּל֔וֹת יְהוֹנָתָ֖ן בֶּן־ עֻזִּיָּֽהוּ׃ ס Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses. Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the country, in the cities, in the villages, and in the fortresses. And over the king's treasures [was] Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, [was] Jehonathan the son of Uzziah:
26 וְעַ֗ל עֹשֵׂי֙ מְלֶ֣אכֶת הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה לַעֲבֹדַ֖ת הָאֲדָמָ֑ה עֶזְרִ֖י בֶּן־ כְּלֽוּב׃ Ezri son of Chelub was in charge of the workers in the fields who tilled the soil. And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground [was] Ezri the son of Chelub:
27 וְעַל־ הַ֨כְּרָמִ֔ים שִׁמְעִ֖י הָרָֽמָתִ֑י וְעַ֤ל שֶׁבַּכְּרָמִים֙ לְאֹצְר֣וֹת הַיַּ֔יִן זַבְדִּ֖י הַשִּׁפְמִֽי׃ ס Shimei the Ramathite was in charge of the vineyards. Zabdi the Shiphmite was in charge of the produce of the vineyards for the wine vats. And over the vineyards [was] Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars [was] Zabdi the Shiphmite:
28 וְעַל־ הַזֵּיתִ֤ים וְהַשִּׁקְמִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּשְּׁפֵלָ֔ה בַּ֥עַל חָנָ֖ן הַגְּדֵרִ֑י ס וְעַל־ אֹצְר֥וֹת הַשֶּׁ֖מֶן יוֹעָֽשׁ׃ ס Baal-hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore trees in the foothills. Joash was in charge of the stores of olive oil. And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that [were] in the low plains [was] Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil [was] Joash:
29 וְעַל־ הַבָּקָר֙ הָרֹעִ֣ים בַּשָּׁר֔וֹן [שטרי] (שִׁרְטַ֖י) הַשָּׁרוֹנִ֑י וְעַל־ הַבָּקָר֙ בָּֽעֲמָקִ֔ים שָׁפָ֖ט בֶּן־ עַדְלָֽי׃ ס Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the herds grazing in Sharon. Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys. And over the herds that fed in Sharon [was] Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds [that were] in the valleys [was] Shaphat the son of Adlai:
30 וְעַל־ הַ֨גְּמַלִּ֔ים אוֹבִ֖יל הַיִּשְׁמְעֵלִ֑י וְעַל־ הָ֣אֲתֹנ֔וֹת יֶחְדְּיָ֖הוּ הַמֵּרֹנֹתִֽי׃ ס Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys. Over the camels also [was] Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses [was] Jehdeiah the Meronothite:
31 וְעַל־ הַצֹּ֖אן יָזִ֣יז הַֽהַגְרִ֑י כָּל־ אֵ֙לֶּה֙ שָׂרֵ֣י הָרְכ֔וּשׁ אֲשֶׁ֖ר לַמֶּ֥לֶךְ דָּוִֽיד׃ Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. All these officials were in charge of King David’s property. And over the flocks [was] Jaziz the Hagerite. All these [were] the rulers of the substance which [was] king David's.
32 וִֽיהוֹנָתָ֤ן דּוֹד־ דָּוִיד֙ יוֹעֵ֔ץ אִישׁ־ מֵבִ֥ין וְסוֹפֵ֖ר ה֑וּא וִֽיחִיאֵ֥ל בֶּן־ חַכְמוֹנִ֖י עִם־ בְּנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ David’s uncle Jonathan was a counselor; he was a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended to the sons of the king. Also Jonathan David's uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni [was] with the king's sons:
33 וַאֲחִיתֹ֖פֶל יוֹעֵ֣ץ לַמֶּ֑לֶךְ ס וְחוּשַׁ֥י הָאַרְכִּ֖י רֵ֥עַ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend. And Ahithophel [was] the king's counsellor: and Hushai the Archite [was] the king's companion:
34 וְאַחֲרֵ֣י אֲחִיתֹ֗פֶל יְהוֹיָדָ֤ע בֶּן־ בְּנָיָ֙הוּ֙ וְאֶבְיָתָ֔ר וְשַׂר־ צָבָ֥א לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יוֹאָֽב׃ פ Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then by Abiathar. Joab was the commander of the king’s army. And after Ahithophel [was] Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king's army [was] Joab.
