1 Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel. When David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel. When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.
2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. David assembled all the leaders of Israel and the priests and the Levites. He also gathered together all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites.
3 And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand. The Levites, thirty years old and upward, were numbered, and the total was 38,000 men. The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.
4 Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges: “Twenty-four thousand of these,” David said, “shall have charge of the work in the house of the LORD, 6,000 shall be officers and judges, David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand are to be in charge of the work of the temple of the LORD and six thousand are to be officials and judges.
5 and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith. 4,000 gatekeepers, and 4,000 shall offer praises to the LORD with the instruments that I have made for praise.” Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the LORD with the musical instruments I have provided for that purpose.”
6 And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And David organized them in divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. David separated the Levites into divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
7 Of the Gershonites; Ladan and Shimei. The sons of Gershon were Ladan and Shimei. Belonging to the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.
8 The sons of Ladan; Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the first, Zetham and Joel—three in all.

13 The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, for ever. The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to dedicate the most holy things, that he and his sons forever should make offerings before the LORD and minister to him and pronounce blessings in his name forever. 22 And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them to wife. Eleazar died having no sons, but only daughters; their kinsmen, the sons of Kish, married them. Eleazar died without having sons: he had only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them.
23 The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three. The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder and Jerimoth—three in all.
24 These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' houses of those of them that were counted, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward. These were the sons of Levi by their fathers’ houses, the heads of fathers’ houses as they were listed according to the number of the names of the individuals from twenty years old and upward who were to do the work for the service of the house of the LORD. These were the descendants of Levi by their families—the heads of families as they were registered under their names and counted individually, that is, the workers twenty years old or more who served in the temple of the LORD.
25 For David said, The LORD, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto his people; and he dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever: For David said, “The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and he dwells in Jerusalem forever. For David had said, “Since the LORD, the God of Israel, has granted rest to his people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever,
26 and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof. And so the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the things for its service.” the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service.”
27 For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward. For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward. According to the last instructions of David, the Levites were counted from those twenty years old or more.
28 For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God; For their duty was to assist the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God. The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron’s descendants in the service of the temple of the LORD: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God.
29 for the shewbread also, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size; Their duty was also to assist with the showbread, the flour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baked offering, the offering mixed with oil, and all measures of quantity or size. They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the special flour for the grain offerings, the thin loaves made without yeast, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size.
30 and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even; And they were to stand every morning, thanking and praising the LORD, and likewise at evening, They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD. They were to do the same in the evening
31 and to offer all burnt offerings unto the LORD, in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feast, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD: and whenever burnt offerings were offered to the LORD on Sabbaths, new moons, and feast days, according to the number required of them, regularly before the LORD. and whenever burnt offerings were presented to the LORD on the Sabbaths, at the New Moon feasts and at the appointed festivals. They were to serve before the LORD regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them.
32 and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of the LORD. Thus they were to keep charge of the tent of meeting and the sanctuary, and to attend the sons of Aaron, their brothers, for the service of the house of the LORD. And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the tent of meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their relatives the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the LORD.
