New Living Translation | King James Bible |
I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. | 1To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David. I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. |
I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. | 2I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. |
My enemies retreated; they staggered and died when you appeared. | 3When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. |
For you have judged in my favor; from your throne you have judged with fairness. | 4For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right. |
You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have erased their names forever. | 5Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. |
The enemy is finished, in endless ruins; the cities you uprooted are now forgotten. | 6O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. |
But the LORD reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. | 7But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. |
He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness. | 8And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. |
The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. | 9The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. |
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you. | 10And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. |
Sing praises to the LORD who reigns in Jerusalem. Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds. | 11Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings. |
For he who avenges murder cares for the helpless. He does not ignore the cries of those who suffer. | 12When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble. |
LORD, have mercy on me. See how my enemies torment me. Snatch me back from the jaws of death. | 13Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: |
Save me so I can praise you publicly at Jerusalem’s gates, so I can rejoice that you have rescued me. | 14That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation. |
The nations have fallen into the pit they dug for others. Their own feet have been caught in the trap they set. | 15The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken. |
The LORD is known for his justice. The wicked are trapped by their own deeds. Quiet Interlude | 16The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah. |
The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God. | 17The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. |
But the needy will not be ignored forever; the hopes of the poor will not always be crushed. | 18For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever. |
Arise, O LORD! Do not let mere mortals defy you! Judge the nations! | 19Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight. |
Make them tremble in fear, O LORD. Let the nations know they are merely human. Interlude | 20Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah. |
