New Living Translation | International Standard Version |
O LORD, don’t rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage! | 1LORD! Do not rebuke me in your anger; do not correct me in your wrath, |
Your arrows have struck deep, and your blows are crushing me. | 2because your arrows have sunk deep into me, and your hand has come down hard on me. |
Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins. | 3My body is unhealthy due to your anger, and my bones have no rest due to my sin. |
My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear. | 4My iniquities loom over my head; like a cumbersome burden, they are too heavy for me. |
My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins. | 5My wounds have putrefied and festered because of my foolishness. |
I am bent over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with grief. | 6I am bent over and walk about greatly bowed down; all day long I go around mourning. |
A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken. | 7My insides are burning and my body is unhealthy. |
I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart. | 8I am weak and utterly crushed; I cry out in distress because of my heart's anguish. |
You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. | 9Lord, all my longings are before you, and my groaning is not hidden from you. |
My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind. | 10My heart pounds, my strength fails me, even the gleam in my eye is gone. |
My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance. | 11As for my friends and my neighbors, they stand aloof from my distress; even my close relatives stand at a distance. |
Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps to kill me. Those who wish me harm make plans to ruin me. All day long they plan their treachery. | 12Those who seek my life lay snares for me; those who seek to do me harm brag all day long about their wicked planning. |
But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak. | 13I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, and like the mute, who cannot open his mouth. |
I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply. | 14Indeed, I have become like a man who hears nothing, and in whose mouth there is no rebuke. |
For I am waiting for you, O LORD. You must answer for me, O Lord my God. | 15Because I have placed my hope in you, LORD, you will answer, Lord, my God. |
I prayed, “Don’t let my enemies gloat over me or rejoice at my downfall.” | 16For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, as they congratulate themselves when my foot slips." |
I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain. | 17Indeed, I am being set up for a fall, and I am continuously reminded of my pain. |
But I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done. | 18I confess my iniquity, and my sin troubles me. |
I have many aggressive enemies; they hate me without reason. | 19But my enemies are alive and well; those who hate me for no reason are numerous. |
They repay me evil for good and oppose me for pursuing good. | 20They reward my good with evil, opposing me because I seek to do good. |
Do not abandon me, O LORD. Do not stand at a distance, my God. | 21Don't forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be so distant from me. |
Come quickly to help me, O Lord my savior. | 22Come quickly and help me, Lord, my deliverer. |
