New Living TranslationHolman Christian Standard Bible
What if the LORD had not been on our side? Let all Israel repeat:1A Davidic song of ascents. If the LORD had not been on our side-- let Israel say--
What if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us?2If the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us,
They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger.3then they would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger against us.
The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us.4Then the waters would have engulfed us; the torrent would have swept over us;
Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives.5the raging waters would have swept over us.
Praise the LORD, who did not let their teeth tear us apart!6Praise the LORD, who has not let us be ripped apart by their teeth.
We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free!7We have escaped like a bird from the hunter's net; the net is torn, and we have escaped.
Our help is from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.8Our help is in the name of Yahweh, the Maker of heaven and earth.
