New King James Version | New Living Translation |
A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, Has spoken and called the earth From the rising of the sun to its going down. | 1The LORD, the Mighty One, is God, and he has spoken; he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets. |
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. | 2From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance. |
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. | 3Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him. |
He shall call to the heavens from above, And to the earth, that He may judge His people: | 4He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people. |
“Gather My saints together to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” | 5“Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.” |
Let the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is Judge. Selah | 6Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude |
“Hear, O My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, your God! | 7“O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God! |
I will not rebuke you for your sacrifices Or your burnt offerings, Which are continually before Me. | 8I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer. |
I will not take a bull from your house, Nor goats out of your folds. | 9But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens. |
For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. | 10For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. |
I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. | 11I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. |
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. | 12If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it. |
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, Or drink the blood of goats? | 13Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats? |
Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High. | 14Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. |
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” | 15Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” |
But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth, | 16But God says to the wicked: “Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant? |
Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you? | 17For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash. |
When you saw a thief, you consented with him, And have been a partaker with adulterers. | 18When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers. |
You give your mouth to evil, And your tongue frames deceit. | 19Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies. |
You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother’s son. | 20You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son. |
These things you have done, and I kept silent; You thought that I was altogether like you; But I will rebuke you, And set them in order before your eyes. | 21While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you. |
“Now consider this, you who forget God, Lest I tear you in pieces, And there be none to deliver: | 22Repent, all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you. |
Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” | 23But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” |
