New King James Version | New Living Translation |
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. | 1Answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent. Free me from my troubles. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer. |
How long, O you sons of men, Will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness And seek falsehood? Selah | 2How long will you people ruin my reputation? How long will you make groundless accusations? How long will you continue your lies? Interlude |
But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him. | 3You can be sure of this: The LORD set apart the godly for himself. The LORD will answer when I call to him. |
Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah | 4Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent. Interlude |
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD. | 5Offer sacrifices in the right spirit, and trust the LORD. |
There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?” LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. | 6Many people say, “Who will show us better times?” Let your face smile on us, LORD. |
You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. | 7You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. |
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. | 8In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. |
