New King James Version | New Living Translation |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. | 1The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. |
Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. | 2Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. |
There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. | 3They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. |
Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, | 4Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. |
Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. | 5It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. |
Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. | 6The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. |
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; | 7The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. |
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; | 8The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. |
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. | 9Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. |
More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. | 10They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. |
Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward. | 11They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. |
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. | 12How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. |
Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. | 13Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. |
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer. | 14May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. |
