New King James Version | New International Version |
Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead), | 1Paul, an apostle--sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-- |
and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: | 2and all the brothers and sisters with me, To the churches in Galatia: |
Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, | 3Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, |
who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, | 4who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, |
to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. | 5to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. |
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, | 6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- |
which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. | 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. |
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. | 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse! |
As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. | 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God's curse! |
For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. | 10Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. |
But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. | 11I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. |
For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. | 12I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. |
For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. | 13For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. |
And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers. | 14I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. |
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, | 15But when God, who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by his grace, was pleased |
to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, | 16to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. |
nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. | 17I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus. |
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days. | 18Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas and stayed with him fifteen days. |
But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother. | 19I saw none of the other apostles--only James, the Lord's brother. |
(Now concerning the things which I write to you, indeed, before God, I do not lie.) | 20I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. |
Afterward I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. | 21Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. |
And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ. | 22I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. |
But they were hearing only, “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy.” | 23They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy." |
And they glorified God in me. | 24And they praised God because of me. |
