Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said: | 1Then the LORD said to Job, |
“Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.” | 2"Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it." |
Then Job answered the LORD and said: | 3Then Job answered the LORD and said, |
“Behold, I am vile; What shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth. | 4"Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth. |
Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.” | 5"Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Even twice, and I will add nothing more." |
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: | 6Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said, |
“Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me: | 7"Now gird up your loins like a man; I will ask you, and you instruct Me. |
“Would you indeed annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified? | 8"Will you really annul My judgment? Will you condemn Me that you may be justified? |
Have you an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like His? | 9"Or do you have an arm like God, And can you thunder with a voice like His? |
Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, And array yourself with glory and beauty. | 10"Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity, And clothe yourself with honor and majesty. |
Disperse the rage of your wrath; Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him. | 11"Pour out the overflowings of your anger, And look on everyone who is proud, and make him low. |
Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low; Tread down the wicked in their place. | 12"Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him, And tread down the wicked where they stand. |
Hide them in the dust together, Bind their faces in hidden darkness. | 13"Hide them in the dust together; Bind them in the hidden place. |
Then I will also confess to you That your own right hand can save you. | 14"Then I will also confess to you, That your own right hand can save you. |
“Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox. | 15"Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox. |
See now, his strength is in his hips, And his power is in his stomach muscles. | 16"Behold now, his strength in his loins And his power in the muscles of his belly. |
He moves his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit. | 17"He bends his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together. |
His bones are like beams of bronze, His ribs like bars of iron. | 18"His bones are tubes of bronze; His limbs are like bars of iron. |
He is the first of the ways of God; Only He who made him can bring near His sword. | 19"He is the first of the ways of God; Let his maker bring near his sword. |
Surely the mountains yield food for him, And all the beasts of the field play there. | 20"Surely the mountains bring him food, And all the beasts of the field play there. |
He lies under the lotus trees, In a covert of reeds and marsh. | 21"Under the lotus plants he lies down, In the covert of the reeds and the marsh. |
The lotus trees cover him with their shade; The willows by the brook surround him. | 22"The lotus plants cover him with shade; The willows of the brook surround him. |
Indeed the river may rage, Yet he is not disturbed; He is confident, though the Jordan gushes into his mouth, | 23"If a river rages, he is not alarmed; He is confident, though the Jordan rushes to his mouth. |
Though he takes it in his eyes, Or one pierces his nose with a snare. | 24"Can anyone capture him when he is on watch, With barbs can anyone pierce his nose? |
