New King James Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah. As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. | 1 For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah. As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God. |
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? | 2I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and appear before God? |
My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” | 3My tears have been my food day and night, while all day long people say to me," Where is your God?" |
When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast. | 4I remember this as I pour out my heart: how I walked with many, leading the festive procession to the house of God, with joyful and thankful shouts. |
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance. | 5Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God. |
O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, And from the heights of Hermon, From the Hill Mizar. | 6I am deeply depressed; therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar. |
Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me. | 7Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls; all Your breakers and Your billows have swept over me. |
The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me— A prayer to the God of my life. | 8The LORD will send His faithful love by day; His song will be with me in the night-- a prayer to the God of my life. |
I will say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” | 9I will say to God, my rock," Why have You forgotten me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy's oppression?" |
As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” | 10My adversaries taunt me, as if crushing my bones, while all day long they say to me," Where is your God?" |
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God. | 11Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God. |
