The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes a glad father, But a foolish son is the grief of his mother.1Solomon's proverbs: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son, heartache to his mother.
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, But righteousness delivers from death.2Ill-gotten gains do not profit anyone, but righteousness rescues from death.
The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish, But He casts away the desire of the wicked.3The LORD will not let the righteous go hungry, but He denies the wicked what they crave.
He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.4Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring riches.
He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.5The son who gathers during summer is prudent; the son who sleeps during harvest is disgraceful.
Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.6Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot.7The remembrance of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall.8A wise heart accepts commands, but foolish lips will be destroyed.
He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known.9The one who lives with integrity lives securely, but whoever perverts his ways will be found out.
He who winks with the eye causes trouble, But a prating fool will fall.10A sly wink of the eye causes grief, and foolish lips will be destroyed.
The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.11The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.12Hatred stirs up conflicts, but love covers all offenses.
Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, But a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding.13Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of the one who lacks sense.
Wise people store up knowledge, But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.14The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of the fool hastens destruction.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city; The destruction of the poor is their poverty.15A rich man's wealth is his fortified city; the poverty of the poor is their destruction.
The labor of the righteous leads to life, The wages of the wicked to sin.16The labor of the righteous leads to life; the activity of the wicked leads to sin.
He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.17The one who follows instruction is on the path to life, but the one who rejects correction goes astray.
Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool.18The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.
In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.19When there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is wise.
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little.20The tongue of the righteous is pure silver; the heart of the wicked is of little value.
The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.21The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.
The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.22The LORD's blessing enriches, and struggle adds nothing to it.
To do evil is like sport to a fool, But a man of understanding has wisdom.23As shameful conduct is pleasure for a fool, so wisdom is for a man of understanding.
The fear of the wicked will come upon him, And the desire of the righteous will be granted.24What the wicked dreads will come to him, but what the righteous desire will be given to them.
When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.25When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the righteous are secure forever.
As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy man to those who send him.26Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so the slacker is to the one who sends him on an errand.
The fear of the LORD prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.27The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.
The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish.28The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nothing.
The way of the LORD is strength for the upright, But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.29The way of the LORD is a stronghold for the honorable, but destruction awaits the malicious.
The righteous will never be removed, But the wicked will not inhabit the earth.30The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not remain on the earth.
The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, But the perverse tongue will be cut out.31The mouth of the righteous produces wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out.
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.32The lips of the righteous know what is appropriate, but the mouth of the wicked, only what is perverse.
