New King James VersionHolman Christian Standard Bible
Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;1Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars.
She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table.2She has prepared her meat; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
She has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city,3She has sent out her female servants; she calls out from the highest points of the city:"
“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,4Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says,"
“Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed.5Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine I have mixed.
Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.6Leave inexperience behind, and you will live; pursue the way of understanding.
“He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.7The one who corrects a mocker will bring dishonor on himself; the one who rebukes a wicked man will get hurt.
Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.8Don't rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.9Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will learn more."
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.11For by Wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”12If you are wise, you are wise for your own benefit; if you mock, you alone will bear the consequences."
A foolish woman is clamorous; She is simple, and knows nothing.13The woman Folly is rowdy; she is gullible and knows nothing.
For she sits at the door of her house, On a seat by the highest places of the city,14She sits by the doorway of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,
To call to those who pass by, Who go straight on their way:15calling to those who pass by, who go straight ahead on their paths:"
“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here”; And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,16Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" To the one who lacks sense, she says,"
“Stolen water is sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”17Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten secretly is tasty!"
But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of hell.18But he doesn't know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
