And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.1Solomon began to build the temple for the LORD in the four hundred eightieth year after the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of his reign over Israel, in the second month, in the month of Ziv.
Now the house which King Solomon built for the LORD, its length was sixty cubits, its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits.2The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was 90 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 45 feet high.
The vestibule in front of the sanctuary of the house was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and the width of the vestibule extended ten cubits from the front of the house.3The portico in front of the temple sanctuary was 30 feet long extending across the temple's width, and 15 feet deep in front of the temple.
And he made for the house windows with beveled frames.4He also made windows with beveled frames for the temple.
Against the wall of the temple he built chambers all around, against the walls of the temple, all around the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. Thus he made side chambers all around it.5He then built a chambered structure along the temple wall, encircling the walls of the temple, that is, the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. And he made side chambers all around.
The lowest chamber was five cubits wide, the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for he made narrow ledges around the outside of the temple, so that the support beams would not be fastened into the walls of the temple.6The lowest chamber was 7 1/2 feet wide, the middle was nine feet wide, and the third was 10 1/2 feet wide. He also provided offset ledges for the temple all around the outside so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.
And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.7The temple's construction used finished stones cut at the quarry so that no hammer, chisel, or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.
The doorway for the middle story was on the right side of the temple. They went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third.8The door for the lowest side chamber was on the right side of the temple. They went up a stairway to the middle chamber, and from the middle to the third.
So he built the temple and finished it, and he paneled the temple with beams and boards of cedar.9When he finished building the temple, he paneled it with boards and planks of cedar.
And he built side chambers against the entire temple, each five cubits high; they were attached to the temple with cedar beams.10He built the chambers along the entire temple, joined to the temple with cedar beams; each story was 7 1/2 feet high.
Then the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying:11The word of the LORD came to Solomon:"
Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your father David.12As for this temple you are building--if you walk in My statutes, observe My ordinances, and keep all My commands by walking in them, I will fulfill My promise to you, which I made to your father David.
And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.”13I will live among the Israelites and not abandon My people Israel."
So Solomon built the temple and finished it.14When Solomon finished building the temple,
And he built the inside walls of the temple with cedar boards; from the floor of the temple to the ceiling he paneled the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the temple with planks of cypress.15he paneled the interior temple walls with cedar boards; from the temple floor to the surface of the ceiling he overlaid the interior with wood. He also overlaid the floor with cypress boards.
Then he built the twenty-cubit room at the rear of the temple, from floor to ceiling, with cedar boards; he built it inside as the inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place.16Then he lined 30 feet of the rear of the temple with cedar boards from the floor to the surface of the ceiling, and he built the interior as an inner sanctuary, the most holy place.
And in front of it the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long.17The temple, that is, the sanctuary in front of the most holy place, was 60 feet long.
The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with ornamental buds and open flowers. All was cedar; there was no stone to be seen.18The cedar paneling inside the temple was carved with ornamental gourds and flower blossoms. Everything was cedar; not a stone could be seen.
And he prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple, to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there.19He prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple to put the ark of the LORD's covenant there.
The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid it with pure gold, and overlaid the altar of cedar.20The interior of the sanctuary was 30 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 30 feet high; he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid the cedar altar.
So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold. He stretched gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold.21Next, Solomon overlaid the interior of the temple with pure gold, and he hung gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary and overlaid it with gold.
The whole temple he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the temple; also he overlaid with gold the entire altar that was by the inner sanctuary.22So he added the gold overlay to the entire temple until everything was completely finished, including the entire altar that belongs to the inner sanctuary.
Inside the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.23In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim 15 feet high out of olive wood.
One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub five cubits: ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other.24One wing of the first cherub was 7 1/2 feet long, and the other wing was 7 1/2 feet long. The wingspan was 15 feet from tip to tip.
And the other cherub was ten cubits; both cherubim were of the same size and shape.25The second cherub also was 15 feet; both cherubim had the same size and shape.
The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub.26The first cherub's height was 15 feet and so was the second cherub's.
Then he set the cherubim inside the inner room; and they stretched out the wings of the cherubim so that the wing of the one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall. And their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.27Then he put the cherubim inside the inner temple. Since their wings were spread out, the first one's wing touched one wall while the second cherub's wing touched the other wall, and in the middle of the temple their wings were touching wing to wing.
Also he overlaid the cherubim with gold.28He also overlaid the cherubim with gold.
Then he carved all the walls of the temple all around, both the inner and outer sanctuaries, with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers.29He carved all the surrounding temple walls with carved engravings--cherubim, palm trees and flower blossoms--in both the inner and outer sanctuaries.
And the floor of the temple he overlaid with gold, both the inner and outer sanctuaries.30He overlaid the temple floor with gold in both the inner and outer sanctuaries.
For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood; the lintel and doorposts were one-fifth of the wall.31For the entrance of the inner sanctuary, he made olive wood doors. The pillars of the doorposts were five-sided.
The two doors were of olive wood; and he carved on them figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.32The two doors were made of olive wood. He carved cherubim, palm trees, and flower blossoms on them and overlaid them with gold, hammering gold over the cherubim and palm trees.
So for the door of the sanctuary he also made doorposts of olive wood, one-fourth of the wall.33In the same way, he made four-sided olive wood doorposts for the sanctuary entrance.
And the two doors were of cypress wood; two panels comprised one folding door, and two panels comprised the other folding door.34The two doors were made of cypress wood; the first door had two folding sides, and the second door had two folding panels.
Then he carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers on them, and overlaid them with gold applied evenly on the carved work.35He carved cherubim, palm trees, and flower blossoms on them and overlaid them with gold applied evenly over the carving.
And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone and a row of cedar beams.36He built the inner courtyard with three rows of dressed stone and a row of trimmed cedar beams.
In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid, in the month of Ziv.37The foundation of the LORD's temple was laid in Solomon's fourth year in the month of Ziv.
And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its details and according to all its plans. So he was seven years in building it.38In his eleventh year in the eighth month, in the month of Bul, the temple was completed in every detail and according to every specification. So he built it in seven years.
