New International Version | New Living Translation |
A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom. LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! | 1O LORD, I have so many enemies; so many are against me. |
Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him." | 2So many are saying, “God will never rescue him!” Interlude |
But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. | 3But you, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. |
I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain. | 4I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain. Interlude |
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. | 5I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me. |
I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. | 6I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side. |
Arise, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. | 7Arise, O LORD! Rescue me, my God! Slap all my enemies in the face! Shatter the teeth of the wicked! |
From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. | 8Victory comes from you, O LORD. May you bless your people. Interlude |
