New International Version | King James Bible |
For the director of music. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A psalm of Asaph. A song. We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds. | 1To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. |
You say, "I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity. | 2When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. |
When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm. | 3The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. |
To the arrogant I say, 'Boast no more,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns. | 4I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: |
Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak so defiantly.'" | 5Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. |
No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves. | 6For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. |
It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another. | 7But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. |
In the hand of the LORD is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs. | 8For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. |
As for me, I will declare this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob, | 9But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. |
who says, "I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up." | 10All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. |
