New International Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. | 1For the choir director. A psalm of David, the LORD's servant. An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked person: There is no dread of God before his eyes, |
In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. | 2for in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to discover and hate his sin. |
The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. | 3The words of his mouth are malicious and deceptive; he has stopped acting wisely and doing good. |
Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong. | 4Even on his bed he makes malicious plans. He sets himself on a path that is not good and does not reject evil. |
Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. | 5 LORD, Your faithful love reaches to heaven, Your faithfulness to the clouds. |
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals. | 6Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments, like the deepest sea. LORD, You preserve man and beast. |
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. | 7God, Your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. |
They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. | 8They are filled from the abundance of Your house; You let them drink from Your refreshing stream, |
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. | 9for with You is life's fountain. In Your light we will see light. |
Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. | 10Spread Your faithful love over those who know You, and Your righteousness over the upright in heart. |
May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. | 11Do not let the foot of the arrogant man come near me or the hand of the wicked one drive me away. |
See how the evildoers lie fallen-- thrown down, not able to rise! | 12There the evildoers fall; they have been thrown down and cannot rise. |
