New International Version | English Standard Version |
A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day. It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, | 1It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; |
proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, | 2to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, |
to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. | 3to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. |
For you make me glad by your deeds, LORD; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. | 4For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy. |
How great are your works, LORD, how profound your thoughts! | 5How great are your works, O LORD! Your thoughts are very deep! |
Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, | 6The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: |
that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. | 7that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever; |
But you, LORD, are forever exalted. | 8but you, O LORD, are on high forever. |
For surely your enemies, LORD, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered. | 9For behold, your enemies, O LORD, for behold, your enemies shall perish; all evildoers shall be scattered. |
You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured on me. | 10But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; you have poured over me fresh oil. |
My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes. | 11My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants. |
The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; | 12The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. |
planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. | 13They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. |
They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, | 14They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, |
proclaiming, "The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him." | 15to declare that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. |
