| 2"Give these instructions to the Israelites, and tell them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that has been assigned to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan with its borders, | 2“Give these instructions to the Israelites: When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as your special possession, these will be the boundaries. |
| 3your southern border will extend from the wilderness of Zin along the Edomite border, and your southern border will run eastward to the extremity of the Salt Sea, | 3The southern portion of your country will extend from the wilderness of Zin, along the edge of Edom. The southern boundary will begin on the east at the Dead Sea. |
| 4and then the border will turn from the south to the Scorpion Ascent, continue to Zin, and then its direction will be from the south to Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon. | 4It will then run south past Scorpion Pass in the direction of Zin. Its southernmost point will be Kadesh-barnea, from which it will go to Hazar-addar, and on to Azmon. |
| 5There the border will turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and then its direction is to the sea. | 5From Azmon the boundary will turn toward the Brook of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea. |
| 6"'And for a western border you will have the Great Sea. This will be your western border. | 6“Your western boundary will be the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. |
| 7"'And this will be your northern border: From the Great Sea you will draw a line to Mount Hor; | 7“Your northern boundary will begin at the Mediterranean Sea and run east to Mount Hor, |
| 8from Mount Hor you will draw a line to Lebo Hamath, and the direction of the border will be to Zedad. | 8then to Lebo-hamath, and on through Zedad |
| 9The border will continue to Ziphron, and its direction will be to Hazar Enan. This will be your northern border. | 9and Ziphron to Hazar-enan. This will be your northern boundary. |
| 10"'For your eastern border you will draw a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. | 10“The eastern boundary will start at Hazar-enan and run south to Shepham, |
| 11The border will run down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, and the border will descend and reach the eastern side of the Sea of Chinnereth. | 11then down to Riblah on the east side of Ain. From there the boundary will run down along the eastern edge of the Sea of Galilee, |
| 12Then the border will continue down the Jordan River and its direction will be to the Salt Sea. This will be your land by its borders that surround it.'" | 12and then along the Jordan River to the Dead Sea. These are the boundaries of your land.” |
| 13Then Moses commanded the Israelites: "This is the land which you will inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes, | 13Then Moses told the Israelites, “This territory is the homeland you are to divide among yourselves by sacred lot. The LORD has commanded that the land be divided among the nine and a half remaining tribes. |
| 14because the tribe of the Reubenites by their families, the tribe of the Gadites by their families, and half of the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. | 14The families of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received their grants of land |
| 15The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, east of Jericho, toward the sunrise." | 15on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho toward the sunrise.” Leaders to Divide the Land |

| 17"These are the names of the men who are to allocate the land to you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. | 17“Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun are the men designated to divide the grants of land among the people. |
| 18You must take one leader from every tribe to assist in allocating the land as an inheritance. | 18Enlist one leader from each tribe to help them with the task. |
| 19These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh; | 19These are the tribes and the names of the leaders: Tribe Leader Judah Caleb son of Jephunneh |
