He lives in Salem; he dwells in Zion. | 2His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. |
There he shattered the arrows, the shield, the sword, and the rest of the weapons of war. (Selah) | 3There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war. |
You shine brightly and reveal your majesty, as you descend from the hills where you killed your prey. | 4You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game. |
The bravehearted were plundered; they "fell asleep." All the warriors were helpless. | 5The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands. |
At the sound of your battle cry, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse "fell asleep." | 6At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still. |
You are awesome! Yes, you! Who can withstand your intense anger? | 7It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry? |
From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. The earth was afraid and silent | 8From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet-- |
when God arose to execute judgment, and to deliver all the oppressed of the earth. (Selah) | 9when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land. |
Certainly your angry judgment upon men will bring you praise; you reveal your anger in full measure. | 10Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained. |
Make vows to the LORD your God and repay them! Let all those who surround him bring tribute to the awesome one! | 11Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared. |
