A psalm; a song for the Sabbath day. It is fitting to thank the LORD, and to sing praises to your name, O sovereign One! | 1It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praise to your name, Most High, |
It is fitting to proclaim your loyal love in the morning, and your faithfulness during the night, | 2to declare your faithful love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, |
to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument and a lyre, to the accompaniment of the meditative tone of the harp. | 3with a ten-stringed harp and the music of a lyre. |
For you, O LORD, have made me happy by your work. I will sing for joy because of what you have done. | 4For you have made me rejoice, LORD, by what you have done; I will shout for joy because of the works of your hands. |
How great are your works, O LORD! Your plans are very intricate! | 5How magnificent are your works, LORD, how profound your thoughts! |
The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this; the fool does not understand this. | 6A stupid person does not know, a fool does not understand this: |
When the wicked sprout up like grass, and all the evildoers glisten, it is so that they may be annihilated. | 7though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be eternally destroyed. |
But you, O LORD, reign forever! | 8But you, LORD, are exalted forever. |
Indeed, look at your enemies, O LORD! Indeed, look at how your enemies perish! All the evildoers are scattered! | 9For indeed, LORD, your enemies--indeed, your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered. |
You exalt my horn like that of a wild ox. I am covered with fresh oil. | 10You have lifted up my horn like that of a wild ox; I have been anointed with the finest oil. |
I gloat in triumph over those who tried to ambush me; I hear the defeated cries of the evil foes who attacked me. | 11My eyes look at my enemies; when evildoers rise against me, my ears hear them. |
The godly grow like a palm tree; they grow high like a cedar in Lebanon. | 12The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. |
Planted in the LORD's house, they grow in the courts of our God. | 13Planted in the house of the LORD, they thrive in the courts of our God. |
They bear fruit even when they are old; they are filled with vitality and have many leaves. | 14They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green, |
So they proclaim that the LORD, my protector, is just and never unfair. | 15to declare: "The LORD is just; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him." |
