A Psalm of Asaph. God takes His stand in His own congregation; He judges in the midst of the rulers. | 1A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment. |
How long will you judge unjustly And show partiality to the wicked? Selah. | 2He says, "How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? (Selah) |
Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. | 3Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering! |
Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked. | 4Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked! |
They do not know nor do they understand; They walk about in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are shaken. | 5They neither know nor understand. They stumble around in the dark, while all the foundations of the earth crumble. |
I said, "You are gods, And all of you are sons of the Most High. | 6I thought, 'You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.' |
"Nevertheless you will die like men And fall like any one of the princes." | 7Yet you will die like mortals; you will fall like all the other rulers." |
Arise, O God, judge the earth! For it is You who possesses all the nations. | 8Rise up, O God, and execute judgment on the earth! For you own all the nations. |
