| 1A Song of Ascents. Remember, O LORD, on David's behalf, All his affliction; | 1A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured, |
| 2How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, | 2and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:" |
| 3"Surely I will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed; | 3I will not enter my house or get into my bed, |
| 4I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids, | 4I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber |
| 5Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." | 5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
| 6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar. | 6We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. |
| 7Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool. | 7Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool. |
| 8Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. | 8Rise up, LORD, come to Your resting place, You and Your powerful ark. |
| 9Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy. | 9May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may Your godly people shout for joy. |
| 10For the sake of David Your servant, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed. | 10Because of Your servant David, do not reject Your anointed one. |
| 11The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: "Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise He will not abandon:" I will set one of your descendants on your throne. |
| 12"If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever." | 12If your sons keep My covenant and My decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." |
| 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His home:" |
| 14"This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. | 14This is My resting place forever; I will make My home here because I have desired it. |
| 15"I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread. | 15I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread. |
| 16"Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy. | 16I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its godly people will shout for joy. |
| 17"There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed. | 17There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one. |
| 18"His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine." | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious." |
