A Song of Ascents. Remember, O LORD, on David's behalf, All his affliction;1A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured,
How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,2and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:"
"Surely I will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed;3I will not enter my house or get into my bed,
I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids,4I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber
Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob."5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."
Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar.6We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.
Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool.7Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool.
Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.8Rise up, LORD, come to Your resting place, You and Your powerful ark.
Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy.9May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may Your godly people shout for joy.
For the sake of David Your servant, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed.10Because of Your servant David, do not reject Your anointed one.
The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: "Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne.11The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise He will not abandon:" I will set one of your descendants on your throne.
"If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever."12If your sons keep My covenant and My decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever."
For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His home:"
"This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.14This is My resting place forever; I will make My home here because I have desired it.
"I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread.15I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread.
"Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy.16I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its godly people will shout for joy.
"There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed.17There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one.
"His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine."18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious."
