NASB Parallel HCSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995Holman Christian Standard Bible
Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; Look, and see our reproach!1Yahweh, remember what has happened to us. Look, and see our disgrace!
Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, Our houses to aliens.2Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our houses to foreigners.
We have become orphans without a father, Our mothers are like widows.3We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are widows.
We have to pay for our drinking water, Our wood comes to us at a price.4We must pay for the water we drink; our wood comes at a price.
Our pursuers are at our necks; We are worn out, there is no rest for us.5We are closely pursued; we are tired, and no one offers us rest.
We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.6We made a treaty with Egypt and with Assyria, to get enough food.
Our fathers sinned, and are no more; It is we who have borne their iniquities.7Our fathers sinned; they no longer exist, but we bear their punishment.
Slaves rule over us; There is no one to deliver us from their hand.8Slaves rule over us; no one rescues us from their hands.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives Because of the sword in the wilderness.9We secure our food at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness.
Our skin has become as hot as an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.10Our skin is as hot as an oven from the ravages of hunger.
They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.11Women are raped in Zion, girls in the cities of Judah.
Princes were hung by their hands; Elders were not respected.12Princes are hung up by their hands; elders are shown no respect.
Young men worked at the grinding mill, And youths stumbled under loads of wood.13Young men labor at millstones; boys stumble under loads of wood.
Elders are gone from the gate, Young men from their music.14The elders have left the city gate, the young men, their music.
The joy of our hearts has ceased; Our dancing has been turned into mourning.15Joy has left our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning.
The crown has fallen from our head; Woe to us, for we have sinned!16The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned.
Because of this our heart is faint, Because of these things our eyes are dim;17Because of this, our heart is sick; because of these, our eyes grow dim:
Because of Mount Zion which lies desolate, Foxes prowl in it.18because of Mount Zion, which lies desolate and has jackals prowling in it.
You, O LORD, rule forever; Your throne is from generation to generation.19You, LORD, are enthroned forever; Your throne endures from generation to generation.
Why do You forget us forever? Why do You forsake us so long?20Why have You forgotten us forever, abandoned us for our entire lives?
Restore us to You, O LORD, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of old,21 LORD, restore us to Yourself, so we may return; renew our days as in former times,
Unless You have utterly rejected us And are exceedingly angry with us.22unless You have completely rejected us and are intensely angry with us.
