King James Bible | New Living Translation |
To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel. | 1God is honored in Judah; his name is great in Israel. |
In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. | 2Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion is his home. |
There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah. | 3There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of war. Interlude |
Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey. | 4You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains. |
The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands. | 5Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us. |
At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep. | 6At the blast of your breath, O God of Jacob, their horses and chariots lay still. |
Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry? | 7No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before you when your anger explodes? |
Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, | 8From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you. |
When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah. | 9You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Interlude |
Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain. | 10Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon. |
Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared. | 11Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them. Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One. |
He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth. | 12For he breaks the pride of princes, and the kings of the earth fear him. |
