Psalm 129
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
1A Song of degrees. Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:1From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me. Let all Israel repeat this:
2Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.2From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me.
3The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.3My back is covered with cuts, as if a farmer had plowed long furrows.
4The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.4But the LORD is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly.
5Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.5May all who hate Jerusalem be turned back in shameful defeat.
6Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:6May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop, turning yellow when only half grown,
7Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.7ignored by the harvester, despised by the binder.
8Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD.8And may those who pass by refuse to give them this blessing: “The LORD bless you; we bless you in the LORD’s name.”
