King James Bible | New International Version |
Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) | 1Paul, an apostle--sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-- |
And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: | 2and all the brothers and sisters with me, To the churches in Galatia: |
Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, | 3Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, |
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: | 4who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, |
To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. | 5to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. |
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: | 6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- |
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. | 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. |
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. | 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse! |
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. | 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God's curse! |
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. | 10Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. |
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. | 11I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. |
For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. | 12I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. |
For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: | 13For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. |
And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers. | 14I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. |
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, | 15But when God, who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by his grace, was pleased |
To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: | 16to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. |
Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. | 17I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus. |
Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days. | 18Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas and stayed with him fifteen days. |
But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother. | 19I saw none of the other apostles--only James, the Lord's brother. |
Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not. | 20I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. |
Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia; | 21Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. |
And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ: | 22I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. |
But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. | 23They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy." |
And they glorified God in me. | 24And they praised God because of me. |
