King James Bible | NET Bible |
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: | 1Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, |
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. | 2through whom we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of God's glory. |
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; | 3Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, |
And patience, experience; and experience, hope: | 4and endurance, character, and character, hope. |
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. | 5And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. |
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. | 6For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. |
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. | 7(For rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person perhaps someone might possibly dare to die.) |
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. | 8But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. |
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. | 9Much more then, because we have now been declared righteous by his blood, we will be saved through him from God's wrath. |
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. | 10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, since we have been reconciled, will we be saved by his life? |
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. | 11Not only this, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation. |
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: | 12So then, just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all people because all sinned-- |
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. | 13for before the law was given, sin was in the world, but there is no accounting for sin when there is no law. |
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. | 14Yet death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who did not sin in the same way that Adam (who is a type of the coming one) transgressed. |
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. | 15But the gracious gift is not like the transgression. For if the many died through the transgression of the one man, how much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man Jesus Christ multiply to the many! |
And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. | 16And the gift is not like the one who sinned. For judgment, resulting from the one transgression, led to condemnation, but the gracious gift from the many failures led to justification. |
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) | 17For if, by the transgression of the one man, death reigned through the one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ! |
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. | 18Consequently, just as condemnation for all people came through one transgression, so too through the one righteous act came righteousness leading to life for all people. |
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. | 19For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man many will be made righteous. |
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: | 20Now the law came in so that the transgression may increase, but where sin increased, grace multiplied all the more, |
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. | 21so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
