To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. | 1For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments, according to the sheminith style; a psalm of David. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger! Do not discipline me in your raging fury! |
Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. | 2Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am frail! Heal me, LORD, for my bones are shaking! |
My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long? | 3I am absolutely terrified, and you, LORD--how long will this continue? |
Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake. | 4Relent, LORD, rescue me! Deliver me because of your faithfulness! |
For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks? | 5For no one remembers you in the realm of death, In Sheol who gives you thanks? |
I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears. | 6I am exhausted as I groan; all night long I drench my bed in tears; my tears saturate the cushion beneath me. |
Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies. | 7My eyes grow dim from suffering; they grow weak because of all my enemies. |
Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping. | 8Turn back from me, all you who behave wickedly, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping! |
The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. | 9The LORD has heard my appeal for mercy; the LORD has accepted my prayer. |
Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly. | 10May all my enemies be humiliated and absolutely terrified! May they turn back and be suddenly humiliated! |
