King James Bible | English Standard Version |
To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. | 1My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe. |
Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever. | 2You are the most handsome of the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. |
Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. | 3Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your splendor and majesty! |
And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. | 4In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds! |
Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee. | 5Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; the peoples fall under you. |
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. | 6Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; |
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. | 7you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions; |
All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad. | 8your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad; |
Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. | 9daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor; at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir. |
Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; | 10Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear: forget your people and your father’s house, |
So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him. | 11and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him. |
And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour. | 12The people of Tyre will seek your favor with gifts, the richest of the people. |
The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. | 13All glorious is the princess in her chamber, with robes interwoven with gold. |
She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee. | 14In many-colored robes she is led to the king, with her virgin companions following behind her. |
With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace. | 15With joy and gladness they are led along as they enter the palace of the king. |
Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth. | 16In place of your fathers shall be your sons; you will make them princes in all the earth. |
I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever. | 17I will cause your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore nations will praise you forever and ever. |
