Thessalonians 5
ISV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
International Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Now you do not need to have anything written to you about times and dates, brothers, 1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.
for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
When people say, "There is peace and security," destruction will strike them as suddenly as labor pains come to a pregnant woman, and they will not be able to escape.3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
However, brothers, you are not in the darkness, in order that the Day of the Lord might surprise you like a thief. 4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;
For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to darkness. 5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;
Therefore, let's not fall asleep like others do, but let's stay awake and be sober. 6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.
For people who go to sleep, go to sleep at night; and people who get drunk, get drunk at night. 7For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.
But since we belong to the day, let's be sober. We must put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 8But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.
For God has not destined us to receive wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus, the Messiah,9For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us in order that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.
So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing.11Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
Brothers, we ask you to show your appreciation for those who work among you, set an example for you in the Lord, and instruct you. 12But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,
Hold them in the highest regard, loving them because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 13and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are idle, cheer up those who are discouraged, and help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. 14We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else. 15See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.
Always be joyful. 16Rejoice always;
Continually be prayerful. 17pray without ceasing;
In everything be thankful, because this is God's will for you in the Messiah Jesus. 18in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not put out the Spirit's fire.19Do not quench the Spirit;
Do not despise prophecies. 20do not despise prophetic utterances.
Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good. 21But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;
Keep away from every kind of evil.22abstain from every form of evil.
May the God of peace himself make you holy in every way. And may your whole being—spirit, soul, and body—remain blameless when our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, appears. 23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The one who calls you is faithful, and he will continue to be faithful.24Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
Brothers, pray for us. 25Brethren, pray for us.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 26Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
I order you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers. 27I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with you! Amen. 28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
