Holman Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God.1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
When the Messiah, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. 4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Therefore, put to death what belongs to your worldly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Because of these, God's wrath comes on the disobedient,6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
and you once walked in these things when you were living in them. 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
But now you must also put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth.8But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices
and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator.10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all. 11Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Therefore, God's chosen ones, holy and loved, put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.13Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Above all, put on love--the perfect bond of unity. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
And let the peace of the Messiah, to which you were also called in one body, control your hearts. Be thankful. 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. 16Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, be submissive to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 18Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and don't be bitter toward them. 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so they won't become discouraged. 21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don't work only while being watched, in order to please men, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord. 22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men,23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ. 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism. 25Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.
