Galatians 5
HCSB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
Christ has liberated us to be free. Stand firm then and don't submit again to a yoke of slavery.1For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Take note! I, Paul, tell you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all.2Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.
Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to keep the entire law. 3I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law.
You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace.4You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.
For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 5For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love. 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
You were running well. Who prevented you from obeying the truth?7You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
This persuasion did not come from the One who called you.8This persuasion is not from him who calls you.
A little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough. 9A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
I have confidence in the Lord you will not accept any other view. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty.10I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is.
Now brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. 11But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.
I wish those who are disturbing you might also get themselves castrated! 12I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!
For you were called to be free, brothers; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. 13For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself.14For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
But if you bite and devour one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another. 15But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don't do what you want.17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity,19Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,
envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance--as I told you before--that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Since we live by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit. 25If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
