1David consulted with all his leaders, the commanders of hundreds and of thousands. | 1David consulted with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with every leader. |
2Then he said to the whole assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and if this is from the LORD our God, let us spread out and send the message to the rest of our relatives in all the districts of Israel, including the priests and Levites in their cities with pasturelands, that they should gather together with us. | 2And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and from the LORD our God, let us send abroad to our brothers who remain in all the lands of Israel, as well as to the priests and Levites in the cities that have pasturelands, that they may be gathered to us. |
3Then let us bring back the ark of our God, for we did not inquire of Him in Saul's days." | 3Then let us bring again the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul.” |
4Since the proposal seemed right to all the people, the whole assembly agreed to do it. | 4All the assembly agreed to do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. |
5So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor of Egypt to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. | 5So David assembled all Israel from the Nile of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. |

9When they came to Chidon's threshing floor, Uzzah reached out to hold the ark because the oxen had stumbled. | 9And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah put out his hand to take hold of the ark, for the oxen stumbled. |
10Then the LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and He struck him dead because he had reached out to the ark. So he died there in the presence of God. | 10And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he put out his hand to the ark, and he died there before God. |
11David was angry because of the LORD's outburst against Uzzah, so he named that place Outburst Against Uzzah, as it is still named today. | 11And David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzza to this day. |
12David feared God that day and said, "How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?" | 12And David was afraid of God that day, and he said, “How can I bring the ark of God home to me?” |
13So David did not move the ark of God home to the city of David; instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. | 13So David did not take the ark home into the city of David, but took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. |
14The ark of God remained with Obed-edom's family in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his family and all that he had. | 14And the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that he had. |
