And all these joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).3All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Dead Sea Valley).
Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.4For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell into them, and the rest fled to the hill country.10Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.
So the enemy took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way.11The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away.
They also took Lot, the son of Abram’s brother, who was dwelling in Sodom, and his possessions, and went their way.12They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and of Aner. These were allies of Abram.13A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshkol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.
When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, 318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.14When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan.
And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them and pursued them to Hobah, north of Damascus.15During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.
Then he brought back all the possessions, and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his possessions, and the women and the people.16He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.
After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).17After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).
And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.)18Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High,
And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;19and he blessed Abram, saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.
and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.20And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, but take the goods for yourself.”21The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself."
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth,22But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,
that I would not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’23that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.'
I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me. Let Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre take their share.”24I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me--to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share."
