| 2“Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by its borders), | 2"Give these instructions to the Israelites, and tell them: 'When you enter Canaan, the land that has been assigned to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan with its borders, |
| 3your south side shall be from the wilderness of Zin alongside Edom, and your southern border shall run from the end of the Salt Sea on the east. | 3your southern border will extend from the wilderness of Zin along the Edomite border, and your southern border will run eastward to the extremity of the Salt Sea, |
| 4And your border shall turn south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and cross to Zin, and its limit shall be south of Kadesh-barnea. Then it shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass along to Azmon. | 4and then the border will turn from the south to the Scorpion Ascent, continue to Zin, and then its direction will be from the south to Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon. |
| 5And the border shall turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and its limit shall be at the sea. | 5There the border will turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, and then its direction is to the sea. |
| 6“For the western border, you shall have the Great Sea and its coast. This shall be your western border. | 6"'And for a western border you will have the Great Sea. This will be your western border. |

| 8From Mount Hor you shall draw a line to Lebo-hamath, and the limit of the border shall be at Zedad. | 8from Mount Hor you will draw a line to Lebo Hamath, and the direction of the border will be to Zedad. |
| 9Then the border shall extend to Ziphron, and its limit shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your northern border. | 9The border will continue to Ziphron, and its direction will be to Hazar Enan. This will be your northern border. |
| 10“You shall draw a line for your eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. | 10"'For your eastern border you will draw a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. |
| 11And the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain. And the border shall go down and reach to the shoulder of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east. | 11The border will run down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, and the border will descend and reach the eastern side of the Sea of Chinnereth. |
| 12And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and its limit shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as defined by its borders all around.” | 12Then the border will continue down the Jordan River and its direction will be to the Salt Sea. This will be your land by its borders that surround it.'" |
| 13Moses commanded the people of Israel, saying, “This is the land that you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe. | 13Then Moses commanded the Israelites: "This is the land which you will inherit by lot, which the LORD has commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes, |
| 14For the tribe of the people of Reuben by fathers’ houses and the tribe of the people of Gad by their fathers’ houses have received their inheritance, and also the half-tribe of Manasseh. | 14because the tribe of the Reubenites by their families, the tribe of the Gadites by their families, and half of the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. |
| 15The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, toward the sunrise.” | 15The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, east of Jericho, toward the sunrise." |
| 16The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 16The LORD said to Moses: |
| 17“These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. | 17"These are the names of the men who are to allocate the land to you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. |
| 18You shall take one chief from every tribe to divide the land for inheritance. | 18You must take one leader from every tribe to assist in allocating the land as an inheritance. |
| 19These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. | 19These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh; |
| 20Of the tribe of the people of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. | 20from the tribe of the Simeonites, Shemuel son of Ammihud; |
| 21Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. | 21from the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Kislon; |
| 22Of the tribe of the people of Dan a chief, Bukki the son of Jogli. | 22and from the tribe of the Danites, a leader, Bukki son of Jogli. |
| 23Of the people of Joseph: of the tribe of the people of Manasseh a chief, Hanniel the son of Ephod. | 23From the Josephites, Hanniel son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of Manasseh; |
| 24And of the tribe of the people of Ephraim a chief, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. | 24from the tribe of the Ephraimites, a leader, Kemuel son of Shiphtan; |
| 25Of the tribe of the people of Zebulun a chief, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. | 25from the tribe of the Zebulunites, a leader, Elizaphan son of Parnach; |
| 26Of the tribe of the people of Issachar a chief, Paltiel the son of Azzan. | 26from the tribe of the Issacharites, a leader, Paltiel son of Azzan; |
| 27And of the tribe of the people of Asher a chief, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. | 27from the tribe of the Asherites, a leader, Ahihud son of Shelomi; |
| 28Of the tribe of the people of Naphtali a chief, Pedahel the son of Ammihud.” | 28and from the tribe of the Naphtalites, a leader, Pedahel son of Ammihud." |
| 29These are the men whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance for the people of Israel in the land of Canaan. | 29These are the ones whom the LORD commanded to divide up the inheritance among the Israelites in the land of Canaan. |
