| 4I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn; | 4I will say to the proud, "Don't brag," and to the wicked, "Don't vaunt your strength. |
| 5do not lift up your horn on high, or speak with haughty neck.’” | 5Don't use your strength to fight heaven or speak from stubborn arrogance." |
| 6For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, | 6For exaltation comes not from the east, the west, or the wilderness, |
| 7but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another. | 7since God is the judge. This one he will debase or that one he will exalt. |
| 8For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs. | 8For there is a cup in the hand of the LORD, foaming with well-mixed wine that he will pour out, leaving only the dregs, from which all the wicked of the earth will drink. |
