So these three men quit answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1Then these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite from the family of Ram became angry. He was angry at Job because he had justified himself rather than God.2But the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram burned; against Job his anger burned because he justified himself before God.
He was also angry at Job's three friends because they had failed to refute him and yet had condemned him.3And his anger burned against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were all older than he.4Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were years older than he.
But when he saw that the three men could not answer Job, he became angry.5And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men his anger burned.
So Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite replied: I am young in years, while you are old; therefore I was timid and afraid to tell you what I know.6So Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite spoke out and said, "I am young in years and you are old; Therefore I was shy and afraid to tell you what I think.
I thought that age should speak and maturity should teach wisdom.7"I thought age should speak, And increased years should teach wisdom.
But it is the spirit in a person--the breath from the Almighty--that gives anyone understanding.8"But it is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
It is not only the old who are wise or the elderly who understand how to judge.9"The abundant in years may not be wise, Nor may elders understand justice.
Therefore I say, "Listen to me. I too will declare what I know."10"So I say, 'Listen to me, I too will tell what I think.'
Look, I waited for your conclusions; I listened to your insights as you sought for words.11"Behold, I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, While you pondered what to say.
I paid close attention to you. Yet no one proved Job wrong; not one of you refuted his arguments.12"I even paid close attention to you; Indeed, there was no one who refuted Job, Not one of you who answered his words.
So do not claim, "We have found wisdom; let God deal with him, not man."13"Do not say, 'We have found wisdom; God will rout him, not man.'
But Job has not directed his argument to me, and I will not respond to him with your arguments.14"For he has not arranged his words against me, Nor will I reply to him with your arguments.
Job's friends are dismayed and can no longer answer; words have left them.15"They are dismayed, they no longer answer; Words have failed them.
Should I continue to wait now that they are silent, now that they stand there and no longer answer?16"Shall I wait, because they do not speak, Because they stop and no longer answer?
I too will answer; yes, I will tell what I know.17"I too will answer my share, I also will tell my opinion.
For I am full of words, and my spirit compels me to speak.18"For I am full of words; The spirit within me constrains me.
My heart is like unvented wine; it is about to burst like new wineskins.19"Behold, my belly is like unvented wine, Like new wineskins it is about to burst.
I must speak so that I can find relief; I must open my lips and respond.20"Let me speak that I may get relief; Let me open my lips and answer.
I will be partial to no one, and I will not give anyone an undeserved title.21"Let me now be partial to no one, Nor flatter any man.
For I do not know how to give such titles; otherwise, my Maker would remove me in an instant.22"For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away.
