Christian Standard Bible | English Standard Version |
LORD, do not punish me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. | 1O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath! |
For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has pressed down on me. | 2For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. |
There is no soundness in my body because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. | 3There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. |
For my iniquities have flooded over my head; they are a burden too heavy for me to bear. | 4For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. |
My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness. | 5My wounds stink and fester because of my foolishness, |
I am bent over and brought very low; all day long I go around in mourning. | 6I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all the day I go about mourning. |
For my insides are full of burning pain, and there is no soundness in my body. | 7For my sides are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. |
I am faint and severely crushed; I groan because of the anguish of my heart. | 8I am feeble and crushed; I groan because of the tumult of my heart. |
Lord, my every desire is in front of you; my sighing is not hidden from you. | 9O Lord, all my longing is before you; my sighing is not hidden from you. |
My heart races, my strength leaves me, and even the light of my eyes has faded. | 10My heart throbs; my strength fails me, and the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me. |
My loved ones and friends stand back from my affliction, and my relatives stand at a distance. | 11My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off. |
Those who intend to kill me set traps, and those who want to harm me threaten to destroy me; they plot treachery all day long. | 12Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek my hurt speak of ruin and meditate treachery all day long. |
I am like a deaf person; I do not hear. I am like a speechless person who does not open his mouth. | 13But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth. |
I am like a man who does not hear and has no arguments in his mouth. | 14I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes. |
For I put my hope in you, LORD; you will answer me, my Lord, my God. | 15But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer. |
For I said, "Don't let them rejoice over me--those who are arrogant toward me when I stumble." | 16For I said, “Only let them not rejoice over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!” |
For I am about to fall, and my pain is constantly with me. | 17For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever before me. |
So I confess my iniquity; I am anxious because of my sin. | 18I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. |
But my enemies are vigorous and powerful; many hate me for no reason. | 19But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. |
Those who repay evil for good attack me for pursuing good. | 20Those who render me evil for good accuse me because I follow after good. |
LORD, do not abandon me; my God, do not be far from me. | 21Do not forsake me, O LORD! O my God, be not far from me! |
Hurry to help me, my Lord, my salvation. | 22Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! |
