Berean Study Bible | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. | 1Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. |
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. | 2Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. |
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. | 3For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. |
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. | 4When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. |
Put to death, therefore, the components of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. | 5Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. |
Because of these, the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. | 6For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, |
When you lived among them, you also used to walk in these ways. | 7and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. |
But now you must put aside all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. | 8But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. |
Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices, | 9Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, |
and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. | 10and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him-- |
Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all and is in all. | 11a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. |
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. | 12So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; |
Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. | 13bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. |
And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity. | 14Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. |
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful. | 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. |
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. | 16Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. |
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. | 17Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. |
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. | 18Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. |
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. | 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them. |
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord. | 20Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. |
Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become discouraged. | 21Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart. |
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with sincerity of heart and fear of the Lord. | 22Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. |
Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men, | 23Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, |
because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. | 24knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. |
Whoever does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism. | 25For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality. |
