Berean Study Bible | International Standard Version |
For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lilies.” A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. | 1My heart is overflowing with good news; I speak what I have composed to the king; my tongue is like the pen of an articulate scribe. |
You are the most handsome of men; grace has anointed your lips, since God has blessed you forever. | 2You are the most handsome of Adam's descendants; grace has anointed your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. |
Strap your sword at your side, O mighty warrior; appear in your majesty and splendor. | 3Strap your sword to your side, mighty warrior, along with your honor and majesty. |
In your splendor ride forth in victory on behalf of truth and humility and justice; may your right hand show your awesome deeds. | 4In your majesty ride forth for the cause of truth, humility, and righteousness; and your strong right hand will teach you awesome things. |
Your arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s foes; the nations fall beneath your feet. | 5Your arrows are sharpened to penetrate the hearts of the king's enemies. People will fall under you. |
Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom. | 6Your throne, God, exists forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a righteous scepter. |
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you above your companions with the oil of joy. | 7You love justice and hate wickedness. That is why God, even your God, has anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness. |
All your garments are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces of ivory the harps make you glad. | 8All your clothes are scented with myrrh, aloes, and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments have made you glad. |
The daughters of kings are among your honored women; the queen stands at your right hand, adorned with the gold of Ophir. | 9The king's daughters are among your honorable women; the queen, dressed in gold from Ophir, has taken her place at your right hand." |
Listen, O daughter! Consider and incline your ear: Forget your people and your father’s house, | 10Listen, daughter! Consider and pay attention. Forget your people and your father's house, |
and the king will desire your beauty; bow to him, for he is your lord. | 11and the king will greatly desire your beauty. Because he is your lord, you should bow in respect before him. |
The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor. | 12The daughter of Tyre will come with a wedding gift; wealthy people will entreat your favor. |
All glorious is the princess in her chamber; her gown is embroidered with gold. | 13In her chamber, the king's daughter is glorious; her clothing is embroidered with gold thread. |
In colorful garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions are brought before you. | 14In embroidered garments she is presented to the king. Her virgin companions who follow her train will be presented to you. |
They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king. | 15Filled with joy and gladness, they are presented when they enter the king's palace. |
Your sons will succeed your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. | 16Your sons will take the place of your ancestors, and you will set them up as princes in all the earth. |
I will commemorate your name through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you forever and ever. | 17From generation to generation, I will cause your name to be remembered. Therefore people will thank you forever and ever. |
