Berean Study Bible | International Standard Version |
For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles... | 1For this reason I, Paul, am the prisoner of the Messiah Jesus for the sake of you gentiles. |
Surely you have heard about the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, | 2Surely you have heard about the responsibility of administering God's grace that was given to me on your behalf, |
that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. | 3and how this secret was made known to me through a revelation, just as I wrote about briefly in the past. |
In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, | 4By reading this, you will be able to grasp my understanding of the secret about the Messiah, |
which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. | 5which in previous generations was not made known to human beings as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. This is that secret: |
This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus. | 6The gentiles are heirs-in-common, members-in-common of the body, and common participants in what was promised by the Messiah Jesus through the gospel. |
I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace, given me through the working of His power. | 7I have become a servant of this gospel according to the gift of God's grace that was given me by the working of his power. |
Though I am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, | 8To me, the very least of all the saints, this grace was given so that I might proclaim to the gentiles the immeasurable wealth of the Messiah |
and to illuminate for everyone the stewardship of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. | 9and help everyone see how this secret that has been at work was hidden for ages by God, who created all things. |
His purpose was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, | 10He did this so that now, through the church, the wisdom of God in all its variety might be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realm |
according to the eternal purpose that He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. | 11in keeping with the eternal purpose that God carried out through the Messiah Jesus our Lord, |
In Him and through faith in Him we may enter God’s presence with boldness and confidence. | 12in whom we have boldness and confident access through his faithfulness. |
So I ask you not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory. | 13So then, I ask you not to become discouraged because of my troubles on your behalf, which work toward your glory. |
... for this reason I bow my knees before the Father, | 14This is the reason I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, |
from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. | 15from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its name. |
I ask that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, | 16I pray that he would give you, according to his glorious riches, strength in your inner being and power through his Spirit, |
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Then you, being rooted and grounded in love, | 17and that the Messiah would make his home in your hearts through faith. Then, having been rooted and grounded in love, |
will have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend the length and width and height and depth | 18you will be able to understand, along with all the saints, what is wide, long, high, and deep— |
of the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. | 19that is, you will know the love of the Messiah — which transcends knowledge, and will be filled with all the fullness of God. |
Now to Him who is able to do so much more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, | 20Now to the one who can do infinitely more than all we can ask or imagine according to the power that is working among us— |
to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. | 21to him be glory in the church and in the Messiah Jesus to all generations, forever and ever! Amen. |
