4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"4But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”4But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.4But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"6and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”6and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, 'HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU'; and 'ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'"6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.6and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He will give His angels orders concerning you, and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."
7Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"7Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”7Jesus said to him, "On the other hand, it is written, 'YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'"7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.7Jesus told him, "It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God."

10Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"10Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”10Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.10Then Jesus told him, "Go away, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him."
11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.11Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.11Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.11Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.11Then the Devil left Him, and immediately angels came and began to serve Him.

Jesus Begins His Ministry

(Isaiah 9:1-7; Mark 1:14-15; Luke 4:14-15)

16the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."16the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”16"THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SITTING IN DARKNESS SAW A GREAT LIGHT, AND THOSE WHO WERE SITTING IN THE LAND AND SHADOW OF DEATH, UPON THEM A LIGHT DAWNED."16The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.16The people who live in darkness have seen a great light, and for those living in the shadowland of death, light has dawned.

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

18As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. Jesus Heals Great Multitudes

(Luke 6:17-19)

24News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them.24So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.24The news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them.24And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.24Then the news about Him spread throughout Syria. So they brought to Him all those who were afflicted, those suffering from various diseases and intense pains, the demon-possessed, the epileptics, and the paralytics. And He healed them.
25Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.25And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.25Large crowds followed Him from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.25And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.25Large crowds followed Him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
